Bill Mahers take on the iphone

New Rule: Stop bitching that Apple cut the price of the iPhone.

Early adopters always pay a premium – early adopters being a business term meaning “dips***s who stand in line for six hours for a freaking phone.”

It’s not a price cut, it’s a repeal on the nerd tax.

If you didn’t have to be the first on your block to have the latest gizmo, you’d now have an extra $200 to spend on your imaginary girlfriend.

NBC NO LONGER ON iTunes

From ilounge.com:

Apple has announced that they will not be offering NBC television shows for the upcoming season on iTunes. In the announcement, Apple revealed that NBC wanted it to pay more than double the wholesale price for each episode, a move that would have resulted in the retail price of each episode increasing from $1.99 per episode to an eye-popping $4.99 per episode. Apple also noted that ABC, CBS, FOX and The CW, along with more than 50 cable networks, are signed up to sell TV shows from their upcoming season on iTunes at $1.99 per episode.

“We are disappointed to see NBC leave iTunes because we would not agree to their dramatic price increase,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “We hope they will change their minds and offer their TV shows to the tens of millions of iTunes customers.”

Because the agreement between Apple and NBC runs out in December, should Apple have begun sales of fall series, NBC could have pulled the content from the store mid-season. To avoid this potential problem, Apple decided not to carry the shows at all. According to the announcement, NBC provided iTunes with three of its ten top-selling shows last season, accounting for 30 percent of iTunes TV show sales.

iTunes Tax in jersey

Beginning this week, New Jersey residents purchasing music and videos from services like Apple’s iTunes and rival digital downloads e-tailers encountered something they’d previously only found at bricks-and-mortar counterparts: a sales tax.

Democratic Governor Jon Corzine proposed the sales tax expansion earlier this spring to help the state to recover from a $4.5 billion budget deficit, an ABC News affiliate in New York reported recently on its Web site. The changes, along with a sales tax rate hike from 6 to 7 percent, took effect on Oct. 1.

According to a CNET News.com special report completed in April, 15 states and the District of Columbia already included media downloads in their sales tax regimes, and a handful of others–New Jersey included–were contemplating similar moves.

Garden State officials didn’t stop at downloaded music and videos for the newly taxed set. New Jerseyans must now pay taxes on data processing; tanning, massage and tattooing services; limousines; and flooring and carpeting installation, among other things.

Apple itunes 7.0.1

Apple today released an updated version of iTunes 7 to fix widespread problems that surfaced in the initial release of the software earlier this month. According to Apple’s brief release notes, iTunes 7.0.1 “addresses stability and performance issues with Cover Flow, CD importing, iPod syncing, and more.” As previously reported, a large number of iTunes users flooded Apple’s discussion boards and iLounge’s forums with complaints about the issues shortly after iTunes 7 was released at Apple’s special event on September 12th. Application bugs reported by users varied widely; it is unknown which specific issues will be fixed with this update.
