Daniel on 24!!!

from gateworld.net

Actor Michael Shanks will make the first in a series of guest appearances on the hit FOX series 24 next week, Monday, April 30, according to fan site Michael Shanks Online. Shanks — SG-1’s Dr. Daniel Jackson — will play a Washington lobbyist named Mark Bishop, a new love interest for Lisa Williams (Kari Matchett), assistant to Vice President Noah Daniels (Powers Boothe).

The actor recently discussed his role in an interview with GateWorld.

“There’s a storyline that is going on with the President this year, and an attempted assassination on D.B. Woodside, who plays the President — President Palmer,” he said. “And then taking over for his character is the Vice President. And so there’s an on-going storyline that is involved in the White House that I’m part of.

“My character is a lobbyist, Mark Bishop, who is in a sort of covert relationship with one of Vice President Daniels’ staff. And that will sort of come to fruition in a lot of different ways. And the character also has an ace up his sleeve, as well. So there is a lot more intrigue that goes on than is immediately apparent.”

Shanks will appear in several episodes between now and the end of the season. The opportunity also reunited him with director Brad Turner, who directed several episodes of Stargate SG-1.

“I’m very happy working over there,” he said. “One of my favorite people in the universe, Brad Turner — who directed a few episodes of SG-1 — is a supervising producer over there and has been for a couple of years. And he directed the first two episodes I was in. It’s a wonderful, familiar feeling.”

Turner wasn’t the only familiar face Shanks worked with.

“The gal that plays my love interest is an actress I worked with 13 years ago in Stratford,” he told GateWorld. “And we hadn’t really seen a lot of each other till we showed up on set.”

“It was a very comfortable environment. They have a wonderful crew — it felt very much like home over there, and I’ve enjoyed my time that I’ve spent over there. It’s a lot of fun.”

What’s to come for Shanks beyond Stargate and 24? “Continuing acting, of course,” he told fans at last month’s Official Stargate SG-1/Stargate Atlantis Convention in Vancouver, B.C., hosted by Creation Entertainment. “I plan things as they come. Right now Christopher Judge ["Teal'c"] has written a pilot script that he and I are looking to produce and be executive producers on. That’s something we are working on.”

24 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific on FOX!

Stargate news

Torri Higginson will be a recurring character come season 4-lets pray that they dont banish her like rainbow’s character.

Stargate Films

Stargate: The Ark of Truth is being written by SG-1 executive producer Robert C. Cooper, who will also direct it. The film will start principal photography on April 15, with a shooting schedule of roughly four weeks.

“That’s going to be the story that [Cooper] wanted to end the season with,” Wright said. “It’s going to be a big, splashy feature film.” The movie will tie up the 2-year Ori storyline from the television series.

“It is a great story,” Wright said. “It’s a big story. It involves travelling to the Ori galaxy.

Stargate: Continuum will follow as a stand-alone story, written by Wright. Long-time Stargate director Martin Wood is expected to be tapped to direct the film, which Wright hopes will prove that the SG-1 franchise can support an on-going series of movies.

“My movie is a stand-alone,” he said. “And what I hope to prove is it’s the first in a string of movies that can continue the SG-1 legacy. … I hope it’s the first of many 2-hour movies, direct-to-DVD or bigger. I think we can show — and I hope the audience shows by buying the DVDs! — that the franchise still has a long way to go.”

Wright also confirmed that Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Christopher Judge, and Claudia Black have signed on for both films. (A deal with Beau Bridges was apparently being pursued when the interview was filmed in December, but the producer was not sure if it had been signed yet.)

Much of the SG-1 crew will also return behind the scenes.

The films are expected to be released on DVD next fall, but MGM’s final plans have yet to be announced. Wright also expressed confidence that a deal would be struck from them to be broadcast on television at some point.

RDA was approached to star in both tv movies.-what about hammond

tapping is in 14 of 20 eps of atlantis next season

Series Finale will be called unending

Movie Story Lines:

Stargate: The Ark of Truth
“As SG-1 searches for an Ancient artifact which they hope can defeat the armies of the Ori, they learn more Ori ships are about to be sent through the Supergate to launch a final assault on Earth. Daniel discovers that the artifact, the Ark of Truth, may be in the Ori home galaxy, and SG-1 embarks aboard the Odyssey to find it, and pre-empt the attack. The I.O.A. has a plan of their own and SG-1 ends up in a distant galaxy fighting two powerful enemies.”

Stargate: Continuum
“While SG-1 attends the execution of Baal, the last of the Goa’uld System Lords, Teal’c and Vala inexplicably disappear into thin air. Carter, Daniel and Mitchell race back to a world where history has been changed: the Stargate program has been erased from the timeline. As they try to convince the authorities what’s happened, a fleet of Goa’uld motherships arrives in orbit, led by Baal, his queen, Katesh (Vala), and his first prime, Teal’c. SG-1 must find the Stargate and set things right before the world is enslaved by the Goa’uld.”

and finally some third series info

Stargate executive producers Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper are officially on the record regarding the third live-action television series, now in the early concept phase. The two talked about the new series in interviews at MGM’s official Stargate Web site.

“That’s definitely in the works,” Cooper told the site. “It’s something the studio is very actively pursuing. We have a concept that we’ve come up with. … We’ve talked at length with the studio about what the concept is for it.”

The idea currently on the plate could be turned into a feature film, Cooper noted. “We came up with an idea that we thought would be a great Stargate feature that really was a separate, third entity to the two existing series,” he said. “It’s entirely possible that we’ll turn that into the third series. I can’t really say too much about it right now. But like Atlantis, it maintains the spirit of Stargate but at the same time opens up a whole new universe.”

Whatever the third series looks like, it will maintain the key ingredients that make Stargate what it is, Wright said — which may preclude the possibility of a show set in the distant future.

“It’ll have the same flavor as Stargate SG-1,” he said. “… It’s the approach to the storytelling that I think makes it unique, and that makes it Stargate. And that’s that it has a sense of humor, and it’s people from our time going on these adventures. It’s not set in the future. … I think that’s what makes it unique, and I think that’s what a third series would have to have for it to succeed.”

And just when can sci-fi fans hope to see the next generation of Stargate? “The ballpark at this point is to have something in active development by the summer,” Cooper said, noting that by that point the preliminary work on the two Stargate SG-1 movies will be done, freeing up some of the producers‘ time. If all goes well, it will also give the studio the time to finalize financing. “Hopefully by then everyone will have their ducks in a row with money. … The goal would be to have it on the air sometime in early 2008.”

stargate movies

From gateworld.net

What’s the future of Stargate SG-1? Fans have been wondering and rumors have been flying for weeks since the long-running SCI FI Channel series was cancelled in August (story). Now, at least the first part of that answer is here.

MGM has given a green light for the show’s creators to produce two direct-to-DVD movies based on SG-1. Executive producer Brad Wright let TV Guide in on the news this week.

“It’s the climax of the Ori story line,” Wright said of the first film. The movie will tie up the loose ends from the show’s tenth season, which is expected to conclude its U.S. television run in June. The film will be written and directed by current SG-1 executive producer and show-runner Robert C. Cooper.

The SG-1 cast is not signed for the movies yet, but are said to be “very eager” to continue.

Wright will pen the second film, which will involve time travel.

The producers have previously expressed a desire to set up a third Stargate television series with a film — but it isn’t confirmed yet whether or not this second movie will do just that.

The studio is targetting a fall 2007 release for both projects — just a few months after Stargate SG-1 ends its historic, 10-year run on cable television.

It’s entirely possible that the movies will also be aired on television — something SCI FI commonly does with direct-to-DVD movies.

“They’re not big-budget [films] by any definition, but for us it’s pretty good,” Wright told TV Guide. “As we’ve proven over the years, just give us little more money and we can make pretty good television, or DVDs.”

“There’s a sense of an era for us ending,” he said, “but at the same time, we’re all positive because of the prospect of continuing forward with movies and the introduction next year of Stargate Worlds, a massive multiplayer online game.”

Season Ten of Stargate SG-1 resumes with all-new episodes in March on SCI FI Channel.
